OmniSource is one of America's top metals recycling companies and the nation's second-largest ferrous and nonferrous scrap processor. OmniSource trades and processes a wide range of ferrous and nonferrous metals. It operates primarily in the upper Midwest and in the Southeastern U.S with eleven automotive shredders and over 90 scrap collection and processing facilities in these regions. OmniSource was acquired by Steel Dynamics in 2007.
OmniSource sells ferrous scrap to steel mills and foundries, including sales to SDI steel mills. It also manages a sophisticated and extensive logistics network supporting the scrap business including truck, rail, and barge operations.
OmniSource processes and/or trades all grades of ferrous scrap. In 2014, approximately 48% of OmniSpource's ferrous scrap shipments was to SDI's steel mills. OmniSource recorded 5.6 million gross tons of ferrous shipments and 1.17 billion pounds of nonferrous shipments in 2014.
