SDI’s Engineered Bar Products Division produces high-strength round steel bars and round-cornered squares. These high-alloy and special-bar-quality (SBQ) steels are employed in rotating machinery and transportation applications and in energy and marine applications.
Round bars having diameters from 3/4" to 9" are produced in standard lengths and in a wide range of grades. Round-cornered squares are available in dimensions ranging from 2 to 9 inches and in standard lengths. We also produce reinforcing bars No. 4 through No. 18 on a limited basis.
The Engineered Bar Products Division also offers a wide range of bar-finishing and testing services that include straightening, turning, and polishing of round bars, plus precision saw cutting, heat treating, demagging, and non-destructive eddy-current and roto-bar testing.

The Engineered Bar Products Division has the capacity to process 300,000 tons of bars annually in its 150,000-square-foot bar-finishing facility.
Round bars are most frequently used to make parts—such as gears, shafts, axles, and flywheels—for rotating machinery applications. We also engineer and produce round bars for the manufacture of seamless pipe and tubing used in oil drilling, military, and other applications.
Round-cornered squares are mainly used in forging steel parts. Typically, our high-strength carbon and alloy-steel bars are custom-formulated for specific applications in heavy-construction equipment, automobiles and trucks, agricultural equipment, mining, and marine drive systems.
