BIOEDGE and EDGE are lower-embodied-carbon steel products produced exclusively with EAF technology, generating significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions and requiring approximately a quarter of the energy compared to global basic oxygen furnace steelmaking technology.

Renewable or Nuclear Electricity

BIOEDGE and EDGE are matched with Green-e Energy certified renewable energy certificates or emission-free nuclear energy certificates, significantly reducing Scope 2 emissions. In 2023, we signed the largest renewable product purchase agreement in the steel industry in North America. This wind energy center began commercial operations in the first quarter of 2024, allowing us to achieve 14% renewable electricity within our steel mill operations.

Renewable Biocarbon

Renewable biocarbon further reduces embodied carbon in the EAF steelmaking process, when used as a replacement for anthracite, significantly reducing Scope 1 emissions. The renewable biocarbon used to produce BIOEDGE is sourced exclusively from SDI Biocarbon Solutions. SDI Biocarbon Solutions we believe is the largest renewable biocarbon production facility globally, with expected annual capacity of 228,000 metric tons.
